Transform your bread machine into a cinnamon sugar bakery

Making cinnamon sugar bread in a bread machine is a delightful way to fill your home with comforting aromas. Using simple ingredients, you can create a soft, sweet loaf perfect for breakfast or an afternoon snack. Here’s how to do it!

Ingredients:

– 1 cup milk

– 2 tablespoons butter, softened

– 1 egg (room temperature)

– 3 1/2 cups bread flour

– 1/2 cup sugar

– 2 teaspoons salt (we use Redmond Real Salt)

– 2 teaspoons cinnamon

– 2 1/4 teaspoons yeast (active dry)

Instructions:

1. Layer Ingredients: Add the ingredients to your bread machine as per the manufacturer’s instructions. Generally, liquid ingredients go in first, followed by dry ingredients, and yeast last.

2. Select Setting: Choose the “Sweet Bread” or “Basic” setting on your machine, and make any necessary adjustments for crust preferences.

3. Monitor Dough: Keep an eye on the kneading process. If the dough seems too wet or dry, you can adjust by adding a tablespoon of flour or water, respectively.

Helpful Tips:

– Room Temperature Ingredients: Ensure that your egg and butter are at room temperature and your milk is lukewarm. This helps with even mixing and rising.

– Why use bread flour in this recipe? It has a higher protein/gluten level than all purpose flour so you should get a better rise and a fluffier loaf.

– Yeast Handling: Make sure your yeast is fresh for the best rise. You can activate it in warm water before adding if unsure. Make sure your yeast doesn’t mix with any of the wet ingredients too soon – sprinkle the yeast on the top of the flour as the last ingredient you add or make a small indentation/well in the top of the flour and put all of the yeast in it just before starting your bread machine.

Adding ingredients:

– You can add in raisins, currants, or another dried fruit of your choice after about one hour (during the 4th knead on our machine – we also get a beeping signal to remind us if we decide to add something in that we don’t want to be pulverized during the first hour of the process in the machine).

– Optional Substitutions: If you’re out of milk, you can use almond or oat milk for a dairy-free option, you can use powdered milk as long as you replace the liquid with water (and you may need less flour as you’ll have a higher volume of dry ingredients), and for a lower fat alternative, consider using applesauce instead of butter.

Serving Suggestions: This cinnamon sugar bread is delicious when toasted and spread with a little butter or cream cheese. Enjoy it plain, or serve slices alongside fresh fruit for a delightful brunch. It’s also a great base for French toast!
